PICK OR OPEN LOCK WITH PICK: TECHNIQUE OF PICK, LOCKOUT OPEN LOCK
These techniques need practice and time for proper learning. One can learn the basics with what I put here but it will require skill that will gain with practice and time. Thus you will achieve perfection. You will get to open locks in less than 1 minute.
The punching technique is about taking advantage of inaccuracies that exist in the lock, because nothing is 100% exact. You must recognize that it is a keeper tumbler lock, the keeper hooks are round and spring-loaded from below. This means that if you press the guard from above, it jumps back to its starting position. They are similar to reed locks that are less frequently used on entry doors.
You can disassemble a lock and study it accurately. It will be good for you to learn.
PICK OR OPEN LOCK WITH PICK: PICK
Engage the lock
Engaging the lock is probably the most important and most complicated in the whole art of picking a lock. A professional is aware of this fact and the success of this skill.
To engage a lock, use is made of the existing space in the core. A torque must be exerted on it to reach the link of the guards.
Normal cylinders can basically be hooked better from below due to the advantage that the hand does not tire as quickly and because it can be supported. The curtain locks, on the other hand, are better hooked from above, although in addition to the individualities, it depends on other factors, for example, how much space there is for the door pole.
The force must be such that the guards catch the joint plane when pressed. A good method to have the correct intuition is the following: First put a tensioner in the channel of the key and do not exert any pressure. Insert the pick into the cylinder and rub the tips of the guards. With each new attempt, slightly raise the tension to the tensioner on the cylinder core and observe the reaction in the cylinder itself and with what force the guards are made to the joint plane.
Some locks require a stronger torque at some point:
- Curtain locks with a spring core.
- New and expensive cylinders with little tolerance.
- Locks that were exposed to rain or weather.
A frequent error is that the tensioner blocks the first guard and there is an alteration to the response of the lock. The professional who carries it out will feel it in his hand. Use a prudent distance for the task avoiding mistakes.
The binding effect
Through the binding effect it is possible to open a lock. When the tensioner force acts on the core, it begins to rotate, until the first guard of the box begins to lock into the guard channel. When the guard is interlocked it is called the binding or binding effect. The guard locks into the bottom and top, core and box respectively.
To move the guard, the pressure force must be greater than the force of the spring or spring and the frictional forces that are produced in the process. The force on the guard must be constant until the enclave, the decisive moment. Where suddenly the friction decreases to zero and the nucleus rotates again a small space. What happened then that the guard was placed it is time to continue with the other guards and when you get it with all of them you will realize that the lock opens, you will have achieved it.
