How to open a locked door without a key

Keys are part of our day to day, we go with them everywhere, even for some they are an accessory more than hangs from the pants or other garments. But that same daily life leads us to lose them, and what a problem we get into becausehow to open a locked door without a key?

We can get techniques that include forcing the lock without causing damage, but, just like those we can also find others that only seek to open the door without caring about anything other than this purpose, so we must be prepared because if the matter becomes difficult, we will probably have to buy a lock.

Using a butter knife

It is a very simple technique, but it also does not work in all types of lock, they can only be implemented in simple models, such as the traditional knob; because its security mechanism is less complex.

To carry out the procedure we will only need a knife to spread. The technique consists of inserting the knife straight into the keyhole, pressing towards the bottom of the hole and turning the knife, as if it were a key. We can also turn the knob to facilitate the work of the knife.

In the case of having a simple knob lock but one that has an eye into which a butter knife cannot enter, it can be replaced by a thinner knife, or with some other tool, for example, a screwdriver. Although it can also be filed and adjusted to the required size.

With pick

For more complex lock mechanisms, in this case mechanisms composed of pistons, we use picks. These are simple tools Very useful, they are made of metal and are used to manipulate the interior of the lock, in order to stabilize the pistons of the mechanism.

But to open a lock with a pick we require another tool that works in conjunction with the pick and is called a tension key. We can identify this type of key by its particular L shape.

  1. We will start by putting the tension key through the wide part of the keyhole while pressing.
  2. We introduce the pick and with it we make movements from the bottom up, pushing the pistons.
  3. When we have removed the piston we will hear a “click” this indicates that we have finished with the first piston.
  4. Now we will insert the pick more to stabilize the second piston, we will repeat this step as many times as there are pistons in the lock.
  5. By stabilizing all the pistons, we turn the knob and the lock will be open.

Using a drill

If we have failed in the application of other techniques, we can make use of the drill. We must bear in mind that the lock may be damaged.

This technique is recommended for locks whose internal mechanism is difficult to force or is very laborious to do. In addition, it is an effective method, since it directly attacks the lock mechanism by overriding it, leaving it exposed and, in this way, makes it easier to force the mechanism.

For its application we must handle as main tools, a drill, a drill bit the thickness of the keyhole and a flat tip screwdriver. When working with a drill we must always make sure that the bit is tight to avoid damage.

  1. We drill the keyhole until it reaches the limit of the bit, always working with extreme caution
  2. Once the internal mechanism of the lock is exposed, we will need to turn the cylinder to open the lock. We can do this step with a flat-head screwdriver; We simply insert it into the hole made with the drill and turn.

If when trying to turn the screwdriver it gets stuck, it may be because the pistons are crossed, so we must insert and remove the screwdriver several times to stabilize the pistons and then turn again.

Removing the hinges

If we are locked in with the door locked, a very convenient option is to remove the hinges; These are two metal plates that fastened with a bolt allow the door to open and close, as they hold the door and its frame together. To remove the hinge we will need: a knife or a flat blade screwdriver and a hammer.

  1. We have to locate the highest hinge and insert the knife under the head of the bolt and raise it to a height that allows us to hit with a hammer.
  2. The next thing is to start hitting with the hammer at that point where we have put the knife. If we use a screwdriver, it is easier to remove the bolt by pushing it with the screwdriver and hitting the handle of the screwdriver. With a few strokes it should come out.
  3. Then we will continue removing hinge by hinge and doing the same procedure. When all are out, we must be careful that the door does not fall, we lean our body against it, and then open it with greater caution.

Disarm or remove the lock

Another technique that we can apply if we are inside our house or in any other space, is to disassemble or remove the lock. It must be borne in mind that it is a strategy that we can carry out with rim locks such as bar locks or simple knob locks.

As for the rim lock, the screwdriver works only if the lock is placed on a wooden door, so we remove the screws and take out the lock. If, on the contrary, it is on a metal door, we will need a file or a metal cutter to remove the solder points.

Regarding knob locks:

  1. We must locate, on one side of the knob, a small button that will come out when pressed and pull the knob.
  2. We remove the metal protector that is attached to the door and below we find the screws that we must remove.
  3. By doing this, the part that contains the knob will be free. We pull carefully and it will come out.
  4. We only have to remove the latch from its closed position, applying pressure with the tip of the screwdriver.
  5. Then we open the door and it will come out of its position.
