How to open a Yale veneer

We know that due to the different brands of locks and padlocks that exist in the market, it is likely that we do not know how to open those mechanisms when we lose or misplace the keys, for example, from a Yale plate. But the truth is that one is not very different from the other, the important thing is to know how the model works.

But nevertheless, In order not to leave loose ends, in this post we will tell you how to open a yale veneer, so you know what to do, in case you need it.

Methods to open a yale veneer

Yale plates have fairly common basic characteristics, so finding a method that fits your lock will not be very difficult, but it will require your full attention to successfully open it. Start by applying the following:

Lockpicks are tools used to open plates, and the yale does not escape from them, fortunately for all of us, because with them we can make all the work easier.

If you do not have a kit of them within reach, you can also make them on your own with materials that you will surely find at home.

You only need hair clips, stationery clips or wire, it can be the common one or some umbrella rods that you no longer use. The question is to improvise with imagination and logic.

One detail, the material of your choice must be strong and flexible enough to be molded and to withstand the use to which it is to be intended.

Let’s imagine that you opted for the hair clip, well, you will need two:

  • Stretch them very well until they are only in a straight line.
  • To one of them you bend one end so that it is in the shape of the letter L, that will be the tension key.
  • You mold the other with a C shape at the same end, it will be the pick.

As you can see, it is very easy, no complications!

Now, to try to open the yale sheet:

  • You insert the tension key first through the slot in the center of the key. The idea is that you do a supervision through the internal mechanism and become familiar.
  • Then leave it embedded in the upper side of the groove.
  • Now you introduce the pick, which will be in charge of lifting the pins that keep the plate locking. Yale plates generally have five pins, and these are not usually exceeded.

The goal is to lift each one of them, with a technique that requires only doing what as close as possible to the bottom edge. When he gets up, the classic opening click is usually heard. That is a clue that you are doing well.

  • If you are sure that everyone is up, proceed to take the tension key that we previously left inserted above. It will act like the original key, that is, you will make the opening turns in the correct direction. This is how it will open.

If you didn’t make it on the first try, nothing happens. You can always try again calmly so that you achieve the necessary concentration and skill.

Bumping key

Bumping keys are really master keys, and that is how they define it, for the ability to open any sheet, including Yale plates. Therefore, its use in this brand is recommended.

You don’t need to be an expert, but you do need to follow the steps exactly, like everything else.

  1. To begin, you take the bumping key and insert it little by little through the crack in the sheet, it is normal that you feel that it gets stuck and that it will not be able to enter, and it will, although with difficulty because it is an intrusion tool.
  1. Once it is completely inside, with the help of a blunt object: a hammer can be, you gently hit the key, so that it is well embedded. The idea of this is that the teeth of the key make a space between the pins and lift them.
  1. Then, you will make test movements from left to right a couple of times at least, until you feel that the key is ready to make full turns in the opening direction, and thus the plate will open.

Forcing the latch

It is important to note that this method only works if the sheet has a latch, if we can access it from where we are, and if it does not have a past key. Although there are several requirements, it is very likely that we can do it, for example:

If the latch is visible from our location, we can force it out with a flathead screwdriver. It should be thin enough to fit through the flange that is created between the door and the frame.

  1. The intention is to place the screwdriver diagonally to the latch.
  2. Then we must push hard or give light blows so that the latch moves enough to allow the screwdriver to engage between the latch and the strike.
  3. The next thing to do is push again with more force and lever the bolt out of the frame strike and into the lock. That way the sheet will be open and with it the door.

Brute force

If the reason that leads you to force the sheet of your property is very urgent, you can consider the use of the drill, for example, as an option. It is a tool that guarantees you openness, although you will not be able to save the sheet.

The question is to be fully aware of how dangerous the use of a powerful tool is, so that the precautions of the work are not superfluous. Wear glasses, gloves and try to have someone to support you.

  1. You will want to put in a powerful bit that is slightly wider than the key hole.
  2. You drill the hole for the lock to create a larger hole. Don’t stop until the drill goes no further.
  3. Remove the drill and insert a slotted screwdriver the size of the hole in its place.
  4. Turn the screwdriver, and with this opens the lock.
